Plastic Packaging for the Food Industry

USP specialises in supplying plastic food packaging products across the broad spectrum of the Food Industry. These products include rigid containers of all shapes, sizes and differing materials in either 'thermoformed or injection moulded ' construction.

Plastic Food PackagingThe three main methods of closure are ' separate snap-on lids ~ hinged lids and trays which can be 'heat sealed with a flexible lidding film'

The materials employed for plastic food packaging, are designed to meet the exacting requirements demanded by the various market sectors of the Industry ie:

  • CPet which allows the consumer to cook the product in either a microwave or conventional oven
  • PP = Polypropylene which is microwaveable
  • OPS = Clear polystyrene ideal for packing salads etc where clarity and presentation play an important role
  • Apet = similar to OPS but infinitely stronger and with better barrier properties
  • PVC/PE: most commonly used as a high barrier material for packing meat products where 'gas flushing' (MAP) is used to prolong product freshness

USP's plastic food packaging range, contains a very extensive selection of 'heat sealable trays', used by the 'Food Processing Industry' to present a neat, cost effective pack which is 100% air-tight and when 'gas flushed' meets the Industry's required 'shelf life' standards. Also, it should be noted that many of these are also available in a 'freezer grade' material = CPP which is also microwaveable.

In accordance with EU regulations regarding contamination and security measures , USP has introduced a large range of 'Tamper Evident' (TE) pots, tubs and containers in RCP material, which meets all the above stringent regulations demanded by the FSB.

Also, included are a large varity of flexible barrier films which are employed as a 'lidding feature'' with heat sealable trays to seal in freshness and prevent leaking or contamination. Especially important in containing gases post introduction of ' modified atmosphere packaging' (MAP).
